I am a student in the Media Blend class at the Contemporary Art Center in Virginia Beach. Taught by Donna Iona Drozda, this class is the most thoughtful and thought provoking art class I have taken. We keep a journal/sketchbook for the class to chronicle how we move through the world. Our most recent assignment was to pick a page at random from the book "How to Be an Explorer of the World" by Keri Smith (see the cover image from Amazon.com above)and do the suggested exploration. Mine was to collect found paper (something I do anyway!), but one of the other students picked the chronicle of consumption exercise. What would you find out about yourself and your carbon footprint if you had to document everything you consumed in a day? And, yes, that includes EVERYTHING down tothe number of sheets of toilet paper you used. Eye-opening isn't it? What, of those materials, could you use in your art work (toilet paper aside) and how?
