Sunshine at Last!

We've had a long summer of rain and cloudy weather. On the days when I wasn't working and wanted to do my solar fabric dyeing the weather was not cooperating. This past weekend we had SUNSHINE, well mixed in with a few clouds. So I hauled my work table outside along with fabric, brushes, dyes, water pots, acrylic boards, slop bucket, and lots of pressed plants. My intention was to make less stand alone pieces, and more complex patterned pieces that could be used as backgrounds while using all manner of pressed plant material.

What followed was a happy afternoon of arranging, painting, and chasing patches of sunshine around our shady yard. Did I mention dodging the battalion of mushrooms that popped up in the grass from all the rain? They do smell nasty if you step on them. The longer I worked the more experimental and freer the fabric became. A couple pieces got over dyed to oblivion, but no matter, for I'm sure they have a use somewhere. It was a heavenly play day!!!!

I have 17 phone books and 6 plant presses (I know, I know, I'm trying to downsize) of plants from around my yard and the neighborhood along with some interesting weeds. My assistant was helping me choose the best ones to use. Photos of fabric to follow later. Just when I got fired up now the clouds are back. I may have to take up silk-screening.
