Another piece of my hand-dyed fabric - this time from my all-time favorite tree, sassafras. I appreciate sassafras for its fragrance, its seasonal colors, and its fascinating folklore.
We have several sassafras trees planted in the front yard, but I think this is the closest I will ever see to fall color from them. Every fall, just before the leaves start to turn, a nor'easter whips up off the Chesapeake Bay and the salt wind burns all the leaves. Fortunately my trees still had leaves this summer while I was dyeing fabric on the driveway, but I did have fall colors in mind. It's a small price to pay to live among such natural beauty!
