Fabric Art August 3

Today's piece is approximately 6.5" x 6.5" and has mimosa flowers on a scrap of cotton sheeting fabric left over from one of my pirate blouses. "Waste not, want not" my Mother always said.
And she's very present today as I try to sort through her things and a lot of things from various stages of my life. Actually I'm trying to pare down the mountain of flotsam and jetsam, but I've been circling around the guest room all day not quite able to make myself get to it. Shedding your stuff is a very tough task for me, the child of inveterate pack rats who grew up during the Great Depression. We saved everything because you never knew when you might need it.
Julie Morgenstern wrote a book called When Organizing isn't Enough: SHED Your Stuff, Change Your Life. Each letter stands for a concept: S is separate the treasures, identify the gems that are worth hanging on to; H is heave the trash, eliminate what is weighing you down; E is embrace your identity, connect to who you are without all your stuff; D is drive forward, explore the direction that connects to your genuine self.
Whew! So I'm working on the mantra keep only what feeds my spirit, brings me joy, and supports the person I am becoming. At least that's my plan...
