What a perfect way to end our regular pirate season! The townspeople of Urbanna couldn't have been more welcoming, and really got into the spirit of the day including dressing out as Colonial citizens and including Revolutionary War Soldier living historians. The Moody Crewe transformed an empty lot in the middle of the main street(appropriately across from the ABC Store)into our pirate encampment. We had cannons, period games, pirate school for the little ones, period cooking, and general mischief. Pirate Al was "arrested" and "tried" on the steps of the original Middlesex Courthouse and fortunately found innocent. He kept insisting he was being mistaken for his brother - who is not an honest sailor. Afterwards the magistrate asked me, "Does he ever stop talking?"
Gas at $3.02 a gallon was a real find, and I highly recommend the Brandy Alexander homemade ice cream from Something Special. A wonderful weekend all around.
Home again and all the dishes are washed, the laundry done, the woodenware and cast iron oiled and seasoned, props packed away, and lists made of things that need to be repaired or replaced over the winter. Now its time to settle back and let new ideas and new ways of improving the display for next year wander in. Life is good.
