Reasons to Love Trees
This is off the topics usually in my blog, but our neighbors behind us cut down 8 huge trees in their backyard and completely changed our lovely, tranquil wooded view. So I feel compelled to remind people why trees are important, especially in a watershed area.
- trees' photosynthesis converts carbon dioxied into oxygen
- trees absorb carbon dioxide (the greenhouse gas blamed for trapping heat in the atmosphere) which may help slow climate change
- trees save energy
- tree roots help clean water by trapping nutrients and pollutants
- trees leaves and roots act as natural filters for air and water
- tree roots retain soil in place and help to slow down flooding
- trees provide habitat for many different species of birds and animals
- trees provide green scnenry that reduces stress and contributes to our overall mental health
Sadly, once they're gone, they're gone and you can't easily replace old, mature trees.

Such an important and critical message to get out there...and such a sadness...
ReplyDeleteI send my deep condolences to the trees and to your loss of beauty and all that your excellent reminders list.
