Modern Quilting?

Lately there has been a lot of chatter in the Interweave Press emails about modern quilting. To my unquilterly eye it appears to be made with mostly neutrals with some pops of color. I don't know what spirit moved me to make a coffee table cover in this style, for some inexplicable reason it just happened one day. The background is scraps of leftover unbleached muslin from former clothing projects. The image is a gelatin monoprint of mimosa pods on a background of hand-dyed fabric.
A bit of explanation about the mimosa pods. They were collected last fall from our newest natural area in Virginia Beach - Pleasure House Point. My husband and I joined a group of volunteers to collect as many of the non-native, invasive seed pods as possible for destruction to prevent them from germinating. The pale green pods were just asking for a better end to their life, so I stuffed a few in my pockets to bring home. A few days later I spent an afternoon playing with fabric ink on the gelatin plate and three pods. The rest went in the freezer for later as yet discovered.
So I don't know if the end result is modern and it is certainly not a quilt, but it does chronicle one day in a place that means a great deal to me.
