The Mermaid's Closet

Once a month I participate in an art group of amazingly talented and supportive women. This project was a challenge to do something with a cardboard box that once held a bar of soap. There were no other instructions and the results were as varied as the member of the group.
This was my take on the project and I call it "The Mermaid's Closet". It follows my favorite topic which is the sea. The front of the box is an underwater scene, and when you open the box there is a full-length mirror with shell sconces (collected from the Chesapeake Bay beach). On the other side a horsecrab claw holds a coathanger with a gold lame mermaid dress. Who says mermaids can't play dress up too?

  1. Leave it to you to take us 'back to the sea'.
It's Earth Day and I'm so happy that I came over to see your sweet piece inspired by the Bay's sultry inhabitants. Cool dress...love the valet, holding the hanger.
